About Us

The North Austin Community Garden is not just a place to grow plants, but a center for growing community. Come join us for one of our monthly work days and get to know the garden. We are located behind the North Austin YMCA.

 About the Garden

The North Austin Community Garden is a collaboration between the YMCA and the City of Austin. Gardeners can reserve a plot for one year (which can be renewed) with great soil and plenty of sun to grow fresh vegetables, flowers or herbs. Community members with children who need financial assistance to rent and plant a plot can inquire about one of our free family plots.

In 2012, the City of Austin Art in Public Places Program commissioned local artists Lucy Begg and Robert Gay of Thoughtbarn to design and implement a community garden at the North Austin YMCA. During the course of the project, the artists worked extensively with the local community, through workshops and public events, to develop the design of the garden.
